A realistic supplier comparison keeps delivery charges separate

In many competitive energy markets, changing the retail supplier changes the supply portion of the bill while the local utility still delivers the energy. This calculator therefore compares supply costs first, then adds the same delivery estimate to both scenarios.

What numbers should you enter?

Use a recent bill and look for the supply, generation, commodity or energy-charge rate. Do not use the full bill divided by usage unless the bill clearly labels that figure as the supply rate.

Electricity: enter monthly kWh and the supply rate in cents per kWh.
Natural gas: enter monthly therms and the commodity/supply rate in dollars per therm.
Delivery charges: use a normal-month estimate for utility delivery and other charges.
One-time costs: include an early termination fee or switching charge only if it actually applies.
